I decided to model a female statue for the room I modeled in the computer animation 1. I had a few setbacks and a tempermetal laptop but here are the final screenshots of the statue. I’ve included an image of the statue standing alone and just the female figure. I ran out of time to model the head and hands so I decided to make her a headless, handless, and 1 armed statue so that she could “fit” into the ruin. I picked my “blue” lighting because it was my favorite from my lighting situtations from computer animation. The whole room is made out of marble so she is as well. I had a “minor” disagreement with nCloth. very minor.

Project 5: Judging
April 7, 2010My questions were:
1) Does the draping allow your eye to travel around the statue?
2) What is interesting/catches your eye?
3) What can be improved?
Those that I talked with did say the draping around the back and arms did allow the eye to travel, but it was only traveling downward
Ryan Scott suggested the scarf around her neck be included in the draping and that the cloth makes a cross when it drapes behind the statue. Kim and Ryan both suggested a one shoulder draping and the cloth wraping around to the other arm. I’ll post new sketches of the draping once I get access to a scanner.
The main that caught people’s interest is the star on her forehead. The point of the star leads the viewer’s eye down into the statue.
The currently the main point to improve on is the draping and Ryan mentioned having the point on the middle of the draping in the back to align with the point of the star on her forehead to have a little bit of symmetrical lining.
Some of the less repeated comments/suggestions were commenting on the facial expression. One mentioned having the eyes open while a couple said it looked fine with her eyes closed since she’s praying.
Ryan also had asked what the final piece would turn out to be like. Either an 3D model in a 2d setting or a rotating animation around the statue. I was thinking of the final project to be a 3d rotation showing off the statue.

Project 5: Design Week 2 “Facial Expression and Cloth movement”
March 31, 2010I would like to have the statue to have a neutral or peaceful facial expression. In the game, she is looking up with her mouth slightly open. I want to do something sort of the same but with her mouth closed. Something maybe like the images below?
To have the shawl or long length of cloth that she drapes around her, I want to raise her left hand up higher so that the cloth creates more of a spiraling action. This way the viewer’s eye can travel around the body and back.

Project 5: Design Week – “Concept”
March 17, 2010I’ve decided to focus on the main statue in the room of Sacred Ashes. It is of Andraste – The Maker’s Bride. The room in general contains her “ashes” so it’s more like a monument to her. I wanted to go with something that would still fit in the room.
I prefer the second one of her praying. The different views of it work and it’s more suited to her “gentle” persona of her taking pity on mankind.

Project 5: Exploration 1 + 2
March 3, 2010I am planning on modeling a couple of statues. In computer animation 1, I’m modeling the Urn of Sacred Ashes room. I talked with Charlotte and she agreed I could model a couple of statues inspired by the statues ingame and place them there at a later time
Here are a few images from the main statue ingame:

Project 5: Exploration Inclass
February 17, 2010I would like to explore 3D illustration with Maya or any 3D program really. This will give me more room to play with 3D and learn it more effectively through different classes. Below I have posted explains of inspirational works from CGtalk.com.
My Idea: I think I’m going to start with something from real life instead of fantasy so I can have a wide amount of references. Charlotte recommended a 2-story building instead of a city scape. Kinney Hall would be an interesting start no? Hmm maybe another 2-story building would be interesting as well or I could use a photograph and model the photograph? most interesting…

Both of these artists have inspired me greatly to play with 3D!

Project 5: Inspirational Works
February 10, 2010I would really like to integrate fine arts into my animations. My inspiration for using watercolor comes from an artist that is popular on deviantart. She may not be well known but the way she draws and paints her characters with ink and watercolor are really beautiful.

My attempts at watercolor have been fairly poor. I would love to experiment with it more.
Below is a video from ThirdSeventh from cgtalk.com, My computer animation teacher showed this to us and I fell in love with it. I’m learning how to model and can’t wait to get into texturing. I find realistic cgs to be jaw-droping and highly inspirational! Under the video is a link to the thread on CGtalk.

Whenever I need something inspirational related to animation, I watch pixar movies! Pixar is a huge inspiration to me. Their shorts and movies are almost always adorable and I always get the feeling to draw something awsome cute. Below is the Partly Cloudly Short. I think it’s on a foreign website.

Project 4: Video Part 2/Final
February 10, 2010It’s not exactly finished. I wanted to check if the changes to the compositions worked before I actually animated them.
The changes were to the 3rd, 4th, and 5th compositions. Mostly moving the horizen line, changing a few colors, and adjusting the branch.

html does not agree with me at all.
